Today’s Bible Reading: Daniel chapters 8, 5, 9

Everybody’s heard the figure of speech: “The writing's on the wall.” Everyone understands what that phrase means. But what if you didn’t hear “the writing’s on the wall” but instead saw the writing on your wall, mystically, magically, supernaturally! That’s exactly what happened in today’s Bible story!

You see, today we read about Belshazzar, king of Babylon, who was living large and in charge. But all that came crashing in on him one night, in the middle of massive party, as he saw a hand – just a hand – delivering him a downer of a message that his reign was at an end. Belshazzar, understandably sobered up and freaked out - understandably. The Bible tells us that his “loins were loosed” which is King James speak for saying he could have used a restroom right about then.

But God wasn’t worried about Belshazzar being the party pooper because He had something to say in that most dramatic way:

God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end. You have been weighed and come up short. Your kingdom will be conquered. (Daniel 5:26-28 paraphrased)

Sure enough, that very night Babylon was conquered by the Medes, and God’s Word to the spoiled King of Babylon came to pass. It always does!

“The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.” Psalm 119:160 NASB

And dear friend, God has written us a message, too. It is His Word and His Word is true! And that entire Word points to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Jesus is God’s Word made flesh to you and me. There is no other way to the Father, but through Him. He is God’s loving message to you and me.
