How Does God Lead?

Today's Through the Bible Reading: Exodus 39 - 40

Abbreviated Reading: Exodus 40:17-38

“Throughout all their journeys…” Exodus 40:36 nasb

Did you know that God’s presence did not follow Israel through the wilderness? It’s true. Rather, Israel followed God’s presence. What a picture of how our walk with Christ should be!

In today’s reading we find the Tabernacle being set up and completed, Aaron being prepared and anointed as a priest, and Israel following where God leads.

I love the way the book of Exodus ends. We've see how Exodus is a picture of our Christian walk and I hope my life's end verse will conclude the same way as this book…

In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out--until the day it lifted. Exodus 40:36-37

Have you ever consideredhow God led Israel in such a practical way? He gave them shade from the hot desert sun with a cloud during the day, and as the temperatures tumbled at night, He provided a pillar of fire for warmth. So as Israel traveled, they simply stayed where it was cool during the day and warm at night. So sweet, so simple!

In a similar way, as you and I follow Jesus, our Good Shepherd, He leads us besides still waters and has given us all things pertaining to life and godliness (John 10:27–30; 2 Pt. 1:3). As Israel followed the cloud, we follow the Spirit (Gal. 5:16–25).

Israel’s journey was not self-directed. They simply followed as God led them. May we, in all our travels, watch and go where God is leading.

Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21
