The Father’s Love

Jesus shadowed in David’s life

Today's Through the Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 19; Psalms 64, 70, 84, 141, 143

Abbreviated Reading: Psalms 64, 70, 84, 141, 143

We've seen throughout our reading of the Old Testament that Jesus is the very essence of the Scriptures. The Old Testament was picturing what the New Testament would unveil. The Apostle Paul tells us in both Romans (Rom 15:4) and Corinthians (1 Cor 10:11), that the things written were given for our instruction, so that in the right time, God's Son would be revealed.

Considering that, what does today's reading reveal about God's character and Christ's foreshadowing? Consider David, as a picture of Christ, weeping over his lost son Absalom. Think of our response to those who mistreat us (both inside or outside our own families). Compare that to God's response towards us, "in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Rom 5:8)

As we take in God's Word daily, we gain perspective in areas that may catch us off guard - that's the beauty of the Holy Spirit! He leads, guides, and sheds light on every aspect of our daily lives.

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. Psalm 143:10
