Good Reason to Rejoice

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 12 - 14

Abbreviated Reading: Deuteronomy 12

"...rejoice before the Lord your God in everything you put your hand to." Deuteronomy 12:18

We have reason to rejoice! Whatever the task, no matter the situation we can REJOICE because our Redeemer Lives and soon and very soon we will stand and see Him face to face. What a glorious day that will be. He will wipe away every tear (Rev 21:4) and everything that is wrong here will be made right there.

In the meantime consider the lessons found in today's reading...

Like us, Israel was on a journey - on their way to the Promised Land. The time to take possession of that land was drawing close and God was preparing their hearts and minds with instructions. So on the brink of such anticipation, what would God tell them? It's the same instructions He's given us as we sojourn through this world...

Destroy completely all the places where the nations worship their gods; break down their altars. You must not worship the Lord your God in their way. You are not to do as everyone sees fit in his own eyes, since you have not yet reached the resting place and the inheritance the Lord your God is giving you. Deut. 12:1-9 [paraphrased and redacted]

Now the battle has shifted from the outward to the inward, but the principal remains. Israel was called to physically destroy the false gods, but we are to tear down their high places in our own hearts, thoughts, and affections.

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 2 Cor 10:5, 6

We may be in the world, but we worship and adore the True and Living God. As such, we must be in His Word daily, firmly grounded, convinced, and persuaded of His truth.

Whatever part of the journey you find yourself on today, the Promise Land is just ahead. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, walk close to Him, feast on His Word and rejoice!

...The Lord your God is giving you an inheritance, and He will give you rest from all your enemies around you so that you will live in safety.
