Boast in the Lord
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Jeremiah 7-10
“…Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might…” Jeremiah 9:23
Jeremiah spoke a lot about our nature apart from God’s Word. He puts our wisdom in perspective when he compares it to the Lord’s. You see, it’s God’s Word that anchors our minds in a world that wants to toss us to and fro. A Biblical perspective on all that’s around you forms a Biblical worldview. Without God’s Word we’re left only with our own thoughts and theories, which are faulty at best. Think with me for a minute – if we’re forming our own theories about the world and our place in it, what that really means is we are either creating a god of our own, apart from the God revealed in the Scriptures, or we’re setting ourselves up as our own god.
“Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might…But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth…” Jeremiah 9:23-24
It is Jesus who holds all wisdom (Col. 2:3), for in Him dwells all the fullness of God (Col. 2:9). It is His strength that is made perfect in our weakness (2 Cor. 12:9). He has made us co-heirs with His inheritance and our riches are in Him (Rom. 8:17). It is through His lovingkindness that He has made us the righteousness of Christ (2 Cor. 5:21) and we are His delight (Eph. 5:2).
“That according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:28
May our view of the world and all that is in it be a Biblical one, and may our glory be solely in the Lord.
