Do You Recognize Him?

Seeing Jesus

Today's Through the Bible Reading: Genesis 42-44

Abbreviated Reading: Genesis 42:1-20

“And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.” Genesis 42:8

After years in prison, Joseph once again finds favor and is promoted to second in command of Egypt. With this promotion, Joseph finally begins to see how God might use his circumstances and save his entire family.

How Joseph must have been comforted at the realization of good being brought from bad. BUT can you imagine the incomprehensible joy that he would have had if he knew how God would point to His own Son, Jesus, through Joseph's humble life.

That is exactly what we see in today’s reading. When Joseph’s brothers were drawn to Egypt seeking food as a result of famine – they stood before Joseph, the very brother they had betrayed – but they didn’t recognize him. Joseph had the power to save them, yet they failed to see him as their brother.

Whata picture of Jesus! Jesus came to His own, but His own did not receive Him - they failed to recognize Jesus their Savior, the promised Redeemer.

“He came unto His own, and His own received Him not.” John 1:11

Like Joseph’s brothers went to Joseph seeking food, may we find our sustenance from Jesus, the Bread of Life. He offers sustenance in a land full of famine.

“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” John 6:35

May we not be like Joseph’s bothers and fail to recognize who it is we are beseeching. We can go to Him for our daily needs, He is our brother and our Savior.

Like Joseph, we may get glimpses of God’s plan along the way, but rarely will we see the finished tapestry this side of Heaven – but our God is trustworthy and His plans are good. So just wait, you’ll see. Soon and very soon we are going to see our King. Although we've spent this life looking through a glass dimly, we will see all things as He planned! Let’s arrive having trusted Him along the way!

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 1 Corinthians 13:12
