The Glorious Book of Romans

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 11:16-13:14; Romans 1

Here we go, get ready, take out your Bible and you’ll definitely need your journal, because today we’re starting the glorious book of Romans.

Romans is truly a good book for us to be studying through the Christmas season. That little babe born in a manger came with the entire purpose of bringing us joy and justification as seen through the book of Romans.

Ready your heart to be reminded of the remarkable, incomprehensible gift of Salvation. From the simplest truths as shared through the “Romans Road” to the deepest revelations of the Spirit, they are contained in the book of Romans.

It was this book that changed Martin Luther and brought about the Protestant Reformation.

This letter is truly the most important piece in the New Testament. It is purest Gospel. It is well worth a Christian's while not only to memorize it word for word but also to occupy himself with it daily, as though it were the daily bread of the soul. It is impossible to read or to meditate on this letter too much or too well. The more one deals with it, the more precious it becomes and the better it tastes.” Martin Luther, Preface to the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans [emphasis added]

Romans can be divided into 7 parts: 1) the whole world guilty; 2) the remedy is justification through faith; 3) the Christian life, dying to sin, newness of life, the Gospel’s remedy for inherent sin; 4) the full result and blessings of the Gospel; 5) the Gospel does not abolish the covenant promises to Israel (because God keeps His promises); 6) the Christian life and service; and 7) the outflow of Christian love (because they will know we are Christians by our love).

We're in for a joy filled heart this Christmas as we consider what that babe in a manger came to do for us.
