Today’s Bible Reading: John 7:53-9:34
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” John 8:36
Jesus came to seek and save the lost. He came to heal both the physical and spiritual infirmities of the desperately sick and needy. He touched the untouchable, and He befriended the friendless. This is our Messiah, Jesus Christ our Savior, our Healer, and our Friend who sticks closer than a brother!
In the Gospels we see Jesus repeatedly meet people in their time of need. Right when there seemed to be no hope, Jesus came to provide it. So, too, He meets you and me today. Just look at our Savior in John 8 and 9 and see the practical ways that Jesus ministered to those who came to Him.
~ He defended those who needed a defender.
“He said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord…” John 8:10–11
~ He offered forgiveness to those who needed a new start.
“‘Neither do I condemn you,’ Jesus declared. ‘Go now and leave your life of sin.’” John 8:11 NIV
~ He offered light to those who stumbled in the darkness.
“I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12
~ He offered freedom to those who were in bondage.
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” John 8:36
~ He offered sight to those who were blind.
“…one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.” John 9:25
And that, my friend, is your story! It’s my story, too! He found us in sin and became our defender, our forgiver, our offer for a fresh start, our freer from our past and the power of sin, our light in the darkness, and the opener of our eyes. Amazing grace!
