One Big Picture Book

Today’s devotion is taken from Jesus, Day by Day

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 7- 10

Now all these things happened unto them for examples. 1 Corinthians 10:11

As we’ve seen, Jesus is the very essence of the Scriptures. The Old Testament points to Him, and the New Testament reveals Him.

Today’s reading contains possibly the single best verse for understanding how to read the entire Old Testament. In fact, it inspired the idea for this book.

Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. (1 Cor. 10:11)

This is our key to understanding the Old Testament. It was given for our encouragement, as an example of God’s attributes and love for His people. Many other verses make it unmistakably clear that the Old Testament is one big picture book centered singularly on Jesus Christ as revealed in the New Testament.

We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth. (John 1:45)

Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. (John 5:39)

And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. (Luke 24:27)

Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me). (Heb. 10:7)

Beyond debate and dispute, all Scripture points to and speaks of Jesus the Christ, our savior and redeemer. To Him be all the praise and honor and glory!
