A Sacrifice that Saves

David, a picture of Jesus

Today's Through the Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 24; 1 Chronicles 21

Abbreviated Reading: 1 Chronicles 21

From cover to cover, Jesus is the very essence of the Scriptures. He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, King of kings and Lord of lords, our Savior and Redeemer! The Old Testament points to Him and the New Testament reveals Him. Today we find a beautiful picture of Jesus Christ and His power over the curse of sin.

Take a look at this amazing account of David’s failure to trust God as he decides to take a census. BUT, consider this – a sacrifice stopped the consequence from spreading.  What a powerful picture! When we read this story looking for the Son of David, we see the perfect sacrifice, Jesus Christ, who put a stop to the consequence of eternal death that resulted from our sin and through His death brought us eternal life.

“Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.” Romans 5:9

David’s remedy is your remedy: the sacrifice!

We look to the perfect sacrifice, JESUS CHRIST, who put a stop to our plague of sin and brought us eternal life. Amazing! Jesus is pictured right here in 1 Chronicles chapter 21.

Here we find a clear pattern of temptation, sin, consequences, and God’s mercy and grace. God revealed His character in and through His dealings with David. He remains faithful to His character and Word. He was merciful then as He gave a glimpse of the coming Redeemer. He is merciful now as we look to His Son! Jesus reversed the curse and brings us life.
