Reformation vs Regeneration

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Jeremiah 2 - 4

Is there a difference between reformation and regeneration? Today's reading marks a clear distinction between the two.

Although you wash yourself with soap and use an abundance of cleansing powder, the stain of your guilt is still before me,” declares the Sovereign LORD. Jeremiah 2:22

At this point in Israel’s history they had a king who loved God. King Josiah was one of the few kings that followed God wholeheartedly. He tore down the idols and destroyed the high places. King Josiah followed God and loved Him. The people loved King Josiah and followed his lead by trying to comply outwardly, but their hearts were still far from God.

This is reformation, but what our heart need is regeneration that brings transformation. We must be born again,

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' John 3:6, 7

Our hearts cannot change through external rules, but a transformed heart brings about changed behavior. If your behavior has not changed, ask if your heart has been reborn and your mind transformed.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2

So pick up that Bible today and let God's Word wash your mind and transform your heart.
