Isaiah Wrote of Jesus 700 Years before His Birth

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Isaiah 10:5-12:6; Isaiah 28

Jesus is the very essence of the scriptures. The Old Testament point to Him and the New Testament reveals Him. Isaiah did not know how God's plan regarding a messiah would unfold, but convinced of God's faithfulness and inspired by the Spirit, he wrote about Christ 700 years before Jesus’ birth. In today’s reading we see yet more details of Christ in Isaiah’s writings. Isaiah wrote that the redeemer would come from Jesse’s decedents (King David’s line)(Isa 11:1).  Matthew 1:6 tells us that Jesus was from the line of David.

Isaiah 11:2 says that “the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.”

Jesus was filled with the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, counsel and might. (Luke 4:18)

Isaiah 11:4 says He will judge in truth. In John 14:6 we see Jesus as the way, the TRUTH, and the life.

Isaiah 11:5 says that righteousness will be His girdle. In Revelation 1:13-16 the apostle John describes Jesus in heaven clothed in righteousness and authority.

Isaiah 11:10 says that the gentiles (all of us who aren't Jewish) will seek Him. We know this is true of Jesus! Look at John 12:18-21, the Pharisees were upset that Jesus spoke to the gentiles who came to seek Him.

Isaiah wrote that God would become his salvation (Isa 12:2). Amazing grace is that God became a man (John 1:14 & Phil 2:5-7), died on the cross, conquered death and rose again on the third day. Through Jesus’ blood we have redemption.God became our salvation!

Look for Jesus throughout today’s reading. He’s there!
