Exodus, a picture of redemption

Today's Through the Bible Reading: Exodus 1:1-4:17

Abbreviated Reading: Exodus 2:1-15; 3:1-10

Here we go – we’re entering the book of Exodus. I think the book of Exodus is probably my personal favorite. It’s a book of REDEMPTION and is rich with pictures of the Christian life.

The word “exodus” literally means “departure,” which is exactly what this book is about—the Israelites departing the land of Egypt after four hundred years of slavery there.

Remember from our previous readings, that Egypt is a picture or type of the world. Well, here in the book of Exodus, God is rescuing His people from bondage in the “world” and leading them to the Promised Land.

We were once in bondage and Christ freed us (Eph 2:1-5). Like Israel we would have suffered death, but we were spared by the blood of the Lamb (Ex 12:5; 1 Peter 1:18, 19).  The journey from Egypt to the Promised Land required faith, but God protected and provided every step of the way.

We can see ourselves and Christ’s work in us throughout the book of Exodus. Get ready to have your heart filled with thankfulness as God demonstrates His awesome power, abundant love, and endless mercy.
