Ransomed

Today’s devotion is from Jesus, Day by Day

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Acts 28:11-31; Ephesians 1-3

In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. Ephesians 1:7

The word redeemed means “to be released upon payment of a ransom.” As believers in Jesus Christ, we have been redeemed from the penalty of sin, bought with “the precious blood of Christ” (Col. 1:14; 1 Pet. 1:19).

This redemption was promised throughout the Old Testament.

I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction. Hosea 13:14

The Christmas season brings constant reminders of that precious babe in the manger. But let’s be mindful of what that baby came to do: He came to die for you and me! Jesus Christ was the long-promised redeemer. He perfectly fulfilled God’s promise through His death and resurrection. He paid the ultimate price, and, as a result, we were released upon the payment of His blood, were forgiven by His grace, were justified by His righteousness, and are being sanctified through His Spirit and Word.

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people. Luke 1:68

Let’s not neglect His Word during this busy holiday season. Let’s dig in, feast on the Bread of Life, drink from the Living Water, and be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Thanks be to Jesus, who paid our ransom!
