There is a Purpose
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Ezekiel 1 - 4
Today we find an amazing story filled with encouragement and challenge. Here we find Ezekiel receiving a mission straight from God.
Ezekiel was in a sad situation. He was captured by the Babylonians and taken from his home and carried off to Babylon (Ez 1:1). BUT, while in this tough place, the Lord met him and gave him a glimpse into heaven (Ez 1:25). God is merciful and it’s often in the middle of life’s hardest times that we see the Lord more clearly and feel Him closer than ever.
If you feel like you've been "carried off" and put in a place or situation that wouldn't have been your choice... Take heart! Ezekiel sought the Lord (despite his environment) and God answered and revealed Himself to Ezekiel in a mighty way.
Experiencing God’s presence leaves a person humbled. In his vision, Ezekiel saw the Lord seated on His throne and says “When I saw it, I fell facedown.” (Ez 1:28) After Ezekiel is humbled in God’s presence, the Lord says to him, “stand to your feet and I will speak to you.” (Ez 2:1) Then God calls Ezekiel to warn Israel and proclaim the need for repentance. When God calls us, He fully equips us. Here God also prepares Ezekiel for Israel’s response – He says, they won’t listen to you, but your job is only to deliver the message.
What a wonderful God we serve! Only He can turn an awful situation of captivity into a purpose. He fellowships with us, gives us glimpses of His glory so we (in our flesh) can trust Him; and then equips us to be used by Him. Like Ezekiel, we've seen our sin, humbled ourselves, and through Jesus have been raised to our feet and able to stand before God.
And just like Ezekiel, we have been called to take a message to this lost world.
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15
Take time to enter the Lords presence today. Read His Word and be prepared to share the good news that He has shared with you.
