A Job from God
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 6:31-55; 1 Chronicles 25-26
Abbreviated Reading: 1 Chronicles 25-26
“They performed their duties according to the regulations laid down for them.” 1 Chronicles 6:32 niv
In what may appear to be a couple mundane chapters—1 Chronicles 6 and 25—we find a wonderful glimpse into the heart of God. He called individuals to specific tasks and roles.Consider today's reading in light of what or where God has called you to do or be. We know God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb 13:8). In the Old Testament, He called individuals to specific tasks and occupations. This reveals how He operates in our lives today. His character remains the same and He works in us according to His good nature.
Through these chapters in 1 Chronicles, we see that God was very specific in His directives regarding who was to do what. He appointed men by name, set their hands to specific callings, and established their occupation with defined lines and specificity. To some He appointed the ministry of music (I Chron 25:7); to others prophecy (I Chron 25:1); there were maintenance men, caretakers, and priests (1 Chron 6:48); some were appointed in finance (1 Chron 26:20); others leaders, "because they were capable" (1 Chron 26:6); and then we read... some "were assigned duties away from the temple, as officials and judges." (1 Chron 26:29).
Whatever God has called you to do, it is a holy calling. There is no such thing as a secular job when its directive came from God. He appoints us and sets our boundaries as He sees fit and according to His good pleasure.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings Philippians 2:13, 14
We are part of God's work, which means, He has a plan and purpose for the things He has called us to. Whatever that is, rejoice! It's God's doing.
But all "...performed their duties according to the regulations lad down for them." 1 Chronicles 6:32
You're talents, the way God made you, the things and people He has called you to serve - all of those are His precious fingerprints on your life. He's touched you!
