Today’s Bible Reading: Ezekiel 5-9

“…have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the room of his idols?...” Ezekiel 8:12 NKJV

Yesterday we saw God give Ezekiel a glimpse into heaven. Today we see Him give Ezekiel a glimpse into the heart of man. And what a sad contrast Ezekiel perceived. God instructed Ezekiel to dig a hole in the wall of the temple and to take a look inside. Ezekiel couldn’t believe what he saw! There was the filth of idol worship written on the walls, and the priests each had a shrine set up for their individual idol – despite also holding onto one of God’s priestly tools God had prescribed for His use.

“…Son of man, dig into the wall"; and when I dug into the wall, there was a door. And He said to me, "Go in, and see the wicked abominations which they are doing there." So I went in and saw, and there--every sort of creeping thing, abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed all around on the walls.” Ezekiel 8:8-10 NKJV

This story should give every believer cause to pause and consider what might be on the walls of our hearts if someone was able to peer inside. Keep in mind that our hearts are the temple of the Holy Spirit so even though Ezekiel was looking into a physical building, the principle as applied to our lives is the same.

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

God has made us priests and kings for His glory (Rev. 1:6). May you and I be the kinds of priests that have His Word written on the walls of our hearts. If anyone peers inside may they see His glory reflected completely, rather than a little Christianity mixed with idolatry (Rev. 3:16).
